Abstract

The gig economy is centered on flexible, contract, or freelance work, sometimes involving establishing online connections with clients or customers. Because of the need for flexible lives and the increased adaptability of labor to meet those demands, the gig economy may be advantageous to consumers, employers, and employees. The advantages of the gig economy may be lost on those who don't use modern services like the Internet. Cities often have the most advanced services and the deepest roots in the gig economy. This study gives an insight into the lives of gig economy workers, and how they are unable to balance their professional and personal life. Due to the fast life and rapid increase in expenses of their basic needs in Pakistan they are facing hundreds of issues on a daily basis and result in being unhappy and unmotivated. based on an interpretative phenomenological approach and have taken conversational interviews of 12 gig economy workers which include 4 freelancers, 2 food delivery riders, 1 car services driver, 1 parcel delivering rider, 2 part-time waiters and 2 data entry persons performing as a part time employee from Karachi. Basically all 12 interviews are taken and categorized into three types, freelancers, part time job holders and Riders. In an attempt to create a work-life balance matrix, the researchers focused on the contributing aspects that may have an impact on how well gig economy individuals balance their personal and professional lives.
